1. Flash Conclusion
China Securities reported unaudited nine-month parent-attributable profit of RMB10.257bn, up 44.70% year on year, but third-quarter profit was only 1.46% higher than a year earlier. The parent-company risk coverage ratio fell to 200.26% at September from 206.54% at June and 236.50% at 2025 year-end. Despite the smaller consolidated balance sheet since June, the parent’s risk coverage ratio declined.
The earnings record supports the existing view of a major Chinese securities franchise with government-related shareholder support expectations. It does not remove the constraints from market-sensitive assets, collateral and wholesale funding. The October 30 board also approved a HKD6bn capital increase for the Hong Kong holding subsidiary; implementation, timing and the resulting parent liquidity and regulatory-capital effects are not established by that resolution. Ownership is not an explicit government guarantee.
The company-authored Q3 statements are unaudited and use Chinese Accounting Standards (CAS). Financial figures are consolidated unless the parent-company scope is specified. The reported September ratios are point-in-time measures, not an assessment of current liquidity or of individual bond protections.
2. Earnings Growth and Its Limits
| Consolidated CAS metric, RMB billion | Q3 2026 | Change year on year | 9M 2026 | Change year on year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Operating revenue | 7.046 | +7.58% | 23.274 | +34.62% |
| Parent-attributable net profit | 2.618 | +1.46% | 10.257 | +44.70% |
| Profit before tax | 3.234 | +1.36% | 13.055 | +53.33% |
The nine-month result adds RMB2.618bn to the RMB7.639bn first-half attributable profit previously reported. Strong cumulative profit improves the firm's capacity to absorb losses, but the much slower Q3 growth makes it a poor basis for extrapolating H1's unusually strong increase. Cumulative net fee and commission income rose to RMB11.719bn from RMB9.088bn, including brokerage fees of RMB7.705bn versus RMB5.757bn. Investment-banking fees rose to RMB2.245bn from RMB1.846bn. These are net fee measures, not total segment revenue.
Market-sensitive income remained important: nine-month investment income was RMB6.724bn, while fair-value gains were RMB3.322bn, compared with a RMB0.605bn fair-value loss a year earlier. The company attributed the fair-value movement principally to derivatives. The numbers do not identify an unhedged directional position: associated assets and hedges have to be considered together. Strong reported earnings can coexist with increased exposure to changes in markets and funding conditions.
Nine-month CAS net operating cash inflow was RMB10.512bn, down 81.86% year on year. Management attributed the change mainly to movements in trading financial instruments and repurchase transactions. This is not a straightforward measure of recurring free cash generation for a securities firm. It also should not be compared mechanically with the IFRS operating cash flow in the previous H1 flash, which uses a different presentation.
3. Parent Capital and Consolidated Funding
| Parent-company risk indicator | Dec. 2025 | Jun. 2026 | Sep. 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net capital, RMB billion | 79.599 | 83.322 | 82.404 |
| Risk capital reserves, RMB billion | 33.658 | 40.343 | 41.148 |
| Risk coverage ratio | 236.50% | 206.54% | 200.26% |
| Capital leverage ratio | 15.46% | 14.17% | 14.18% |
| Liquidity coverage ratio | 266.44% | 247.00% | 252.08% |
| Net stable funding ratio | 190.75% | 186.66% | 193.42% |
| Net capital / liabilities | 24.49% | 21.23% | 21.94% |
| Proprietary non-equity securities and derivatives / net capital | 306.44% | 330.30% | 337.30% |
Net capital declined approximately RMB0.918bn from June as risk capital reserves rose about RMB0.805bn. This mechanically helps explain the 6.28 percentage-point fall in risk coverage despite profitable consolidated operations. The firm stated that parent risk-control indicators complied with applicable requirements. The June discussion's 200% warning line is an investor monitoring heuristic, not a confirmed regulatory threshold or internal management limit. A September value only 0.26 percentage points above that heuristic warrants close follow-up; it does not by itself establish a breach or require a predetermined management response.
Liquidity ratios improved from June, as did net capital relative to liabilities, but the non-equity proprietary securities and derivatives indicator rose. It measures exposure under the regulatory definition, not a direct estimate of potential loss or a disclosure of the underlying portfolio mix. The ratio and the fall in coverage support a more cautious reading of capital use than earnings alone.
Consolidated assets fell to RMB775.489bn at September from RMB860.451bn at June. Brokerage client payables also fell to RMB203.206bn from RMB262.900bn. Deducting brokerage and underwriting client payables from assets gives approximately RMB572.197bn versus RMB597.204bn at June. This simple proxy indicates a smaller balance sheet even after this client-related adjustment; it is not a calculation of risk-weighted assets or freely available collateral. Client monies must not be treated as unrestricted funds available to repay the firm's debt.
Repurchase agreements payable were RMB139.696bn and bonds payable RMB155.630bn at September, compared with RMB135.496bn and RMB122.586bn respectively at 2025 year-end. Trading financial liabilities increased to RMB21.977bn from RMB11.610bn, with the company citing bond-lending sales and issued return certificates. These balances underscore ongoing market-funding and counterparty exposure; they are different instruments and must not be added as a single short-term maturity bucket. The report does not establish repo tenor, collateral haircuts, committed funding availability or cash access under stress. Improved regulatory liquidity ratios do not answer those questions.
4. What To Watch Next
The June 4 discussion asked whether stronger profits were rebuilding capital headroom or accompanied by greater risk usage. September brings risk coverage closer to its suggested monitoring line and the non-equity ratio higher than in June, although the consolidated balance sheet shrank and LCR improved. The next report should test the causes of capital-reserve growth and whether the trend reverses. Portfolio composition, counterparty concentration, available collateral and management's own risk appetite remain unconfirmed.
On October 30 the board approved a HKD6bn, or RMB-equivalent, capital increase to China Securities International Finance Holding. The resolution does not state that the contribution had been made, its funding source or its effect on the parent's regulatory headroom. Follow implementation and capital allocation alongside the subsidiary's own funding. The H1 report distinguished parent guarantees of certain notes from subsidiary guarantees of other obligations; the new board decision does not establish identical legal recourse for every offshore instrument. Individual guarantee terms, transfer restrictions and support effectiveness remain instrument-specific.
The Q3 report does not establish whether earlier supervisory rectification was effective or whether conduct cases recur. The June discussion's broader claims and legal questions remain outstanding for the next issuer summary. Current ratings, spreads and individual bond terms were not reverified for this event review.
