1. Flash Conclusion
Genting Berhad's second-quarter 2026 results show a sequential improvement in operating performance, but they do not materially change the holding-company credit view established in the May 2026 issuer summary. Revenue rose 14% year on year to RM7.75bn and adjusted EBITDA rose 2% to RM2.12bn, with stronger US and Bahamas activity, plantation performance and a recovery in the quarterly contribution from Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) relative to the first quarter. This supports the view that the diversified operating base remains intact; the US and Bahamas uplift reflects initial commercial-casino operations at Resorts World New York City (RWNYC) alongside the prior-year consolidation of Genting Empire Resorts LLC.
The credit read-through is nevertheless mixed. Profit before tax fell 46% to RM569.6mn and the loss attributable to Genting Berhad's ordinary equity holders was RM27.1mn, versus a RM243.5mn profit in 2Q25. Higher finance cost, lower interest income, lower share of joint-venture and associate profits, higher depreciation and the absence of the prior year's asset-sale gain outweighed the modest EBITDA growth. First-half adjusted EBITDA was also 3% below the prior-year period. The results therefore provide evidence of operating progress, rather than proof that earnings and financial headroom have recovered enough to absorb the group's continuing investment programme without pressure.
The Q2 filing materially improves the evidence base on liquidity and funding relative to the Q1 flash. It reports RM17.64bn of cash and cash equivalents, RM45.25bn of total borrowings and RM41.36bn of authorised capital commitments at 30 June 2026. These figures establish consolidated balance-sheet scale and disclosed financing activity, but they do not establish parent-only liquidity or readily deployable consolidated cash. Listed subsidiaries, minority interests, operating-company debt, security and covenant structures can limit upstreaming and creditor access. The principal near-term credit questions remain the cash conversion of RWNYC, RWS 2.0 spending and returns, RWLV covenant support, refinancing execution and the balance between investment and debt reduction.
2. Q2 Results and Operating Drivers
Genting Berhad reported unaudited 2Q26 revenue of RM7.746bn, up 14% from RM6.784bn in 2Q25. Adjusted EBITDA increased 2% to RM2.119bn. The sequential comparison was stronger: revenue and adjusted EBITDA were both 16% above 1Q26, and PBT was 23% higher. The quarterly recovery should be viewed in the context of the weaker first half: 1H26 revenue increased 8% to RM14.411bn, but adjusted EBITDA declined 3% to RM3.945bn and PBT declined 38% to RM1.033bn.
| Metric | 2Q26 | 2Q25 | 1H26 | 1H25 |

Leisure and hospitality remained the central earnings engine. Its 2Q26 revenue increased 14% to RM6.39bn and adjusted EBITDA increased 7% to RM1.83bn. The largest revenue increase was in the US and Bahamas, where revenue rose 67% to RM2.26bn and adjusted EBITDA rose 56% to RM313.3mn. Management attributed the movement primarily to the commencement of RWNYC's initial full commercial-casino operations on 28 April 2026 and the consolidation of Genting Empire Resorts LLC since May 2025; higher operating and payroll costs during RWNYC's ramp-up partly offset the benefit. This is a positive early operating indicator, but the filing does not disclose property-level RWNYC EBITDA, remaining project cost or a mature earnings run rate.
RWS made operating progress in the quarter. Management said local-currency revenue and EBITDA improved, although the translated RM revenue was lower and EBITDA was broadly flat year on year because of ringgit strength against the Singapore dollar. Resorts World Genting recorded higher EBITDA despite lower revenue, supported by cost management but affected by higher payroll cost. RWLV also improved, with 88.0% hotel occupancy and USD274 ADR, compared with 80.2% and USD265 a year earlier, alongside better convention attendance and high-end play. These developments support resilience in the flagship resort base, but neither they nor the sequential EBITDA recovery establish that the RWS transformation or RWNYC investment has yet reached a self-funding phase.
3. Liquidity, Funding and Investment Read-Through
The interim balance sheet reported cash and cash equivalents of RM17.64bn, down modestly from RM18.00bn at end-2025. Total borrowings rose to RM45.25bn from RM40.81bn, including RM9.68bn of short-term borrowings and RM35.58bn of long-term borrowings. In 1H26, operating cash flow was RM2.58bn, while investing cash outflow was RM5.31bn, including RM2.92bn of purchases of property, plant and equipment and rights-of-use assets and RM2.68bn of investments, intangibles and other long-term financial assets. The gap was funded alongside RM12.70bn of borrowing proceeds and RM8.43bn of repayments and transaction costs. The figures reinforce that liquidity must be assessed together with the investment cycle and refinancing activity rather than through cash alone.
Authorised capital commitments were RM41.36bn at 30 June, of which RM14.96bn was contracted. The disclosed total includes RM12.56bn of development expenditure related to RWNYC. This does not mean the full authorised amount will be funded immediately, but it confirms a substantial pipeline whose timing, returns and funding remain key to future financial flexibility.
The filing also confirms operating-subsidiary funding actions. Genting Americas Inc. entered a new USD2.0bn secured credit facility in June 2026 to refinance Genting New York LLC's existing facility, redeem Empire's USD300mn 7.75% notes due November 2026 and support RWNYC's development and operations. Separately, the company states that RWLV must meet leverage and interest-coverage covenants and that the group will continue to provide necessary funding, including equity cure, in the second half of 2026 and the next financial year. These actions address identified operating-company needs, but do not remove structural-subordination, cash-upstreaming or parent-only-liquidity questions for Genting Berhad creditors.
4. What To Watch Next
The first test is whether RWNYC converts commercial-casino activity into sustainable EBITDA after payroll, operating and development costs, and whether its additional build-out remains funded without disproportionate cash absorption. The next disclosure should also clarify the evolution of the RM12.56bn RWNYC development commitment and the use of the new GAI facility.
Second, investors should monitor whether RWS's new offerings and asset optimisation produce sustained EBITDA growth despite FX translation, tourism conditions and the continuing RWS 2.0 programme. For RWLV, occupancy, ADR, convention demand, margin actions and covenant compliance remain more important than a single quarter's operating improvement.
Finally, future analysis should separate consolidated cash and debt from legal-entity funding capacity. The remaining GOHL 2027 notes, hybrid distribution burden, parent dividend upstreaming, bond-level ranking and collateral, rating-agency treatment and live market pricing were not resolved by this disclosure and require primary financing and rating materials.
