1. Flash Conclusion
NH Investment & Securities, a Korean securities company whose earnings depend on brokerage, wealth management, investment banking and market investments, reported lower sequential but higher year-on-year Q3 earnings. Operating profit fell 23.5% from Q2 to KRW 521.1bn, while profit attributable to owners fell 21.6% to KRW 383.6bn. Both remained about one-third above a year earlier. Nine-month earnings accumulation supports the existing constructive but conditional credit view; the quarter also reinforces the August flash's warning against annualizing record results.
The release establishes earnings, not September capital, liquidity or funding resilience. Creditor benefit depends on profits being retained and risk growth remaining proportionate. No new rating, parent guarantee or bond-specific value conclusion follows. The appropriate response is continued monitoring of earnings quality and the balance sheet, rather than treating the sequential fall alone as proof of structural deterioration.
2. What Was Announced
The 26 October DART disclosure covers July–September and January–September 2026 on a K-IFRS consolidated basis. Figures are provisional, external audit is incomplete and amounts may change. The filing identifies its revenue line as operating revenue. It also provides separate-company Q3 results, which must be distinguished from consolidated and owner-attributable earnings.
| Metric, KRW bn | Q3 2026 | Q2 2026 | Q3 2025 | Q3 QoQ / YoY |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Consolidated operating revenue | 6,779.274 | 12,848.152 | 2,719.912 | -47.24% / +149.25% |
| Consolidated operating profit | 521.100 | 681.244 | 391.344 | -23.51% / +33.16% |
| Consolidated pre-tax profit | 500.760 | 662.976 | 372.014 | -24.47% / +34.61% |
| Total consolidated net profit | 383.644 | 489.437 | 283.083 | -21.62% / +35.52% |
| Net profit attributable to owners | 383.620 | 489.570 | 283.093 | -21.64% / +35.51% |

Nine-month operating profit was KRW 1,839.033bn, up 83.48%, and attributable net profit was KRW 1,348.867bn, up 80.31%. Total consolidated net profit, a different measure, was KRW 1,348.767bn. These figures demonstrate substantial reported earnings accumulation despite the softer third quarter. They do not establish the amount added to regulatory capital or cash available to meet maturities.
The current filing's exact Q2 total and attributable net-profit comparators are used here. The prior flash's rounded “net income” wording should not be carried into a more precise scope comparison without checking the applicable row. This is a definition and comparator discipline, not evidence of a material earnings restatement.
3. Sequential Earnings Decline and Loss Absorption
The sequential decline moderates the momentum described in the August flash, but the year-on-year and cumulative comparisons remain favorable. Q3 operating profit exceeds the prior-year quarter by KRW 129.756bn, while the quarterly level is KRW 160.144bn below Q2. These are calculated differences from the disclosed amounts. The first comparison supports earnings capacity; the second shows why a high-quarter run-rate is an unreliable basis for stress analysis.
For creditors, profits provide a potential buffer against future credit and valuation losses. That benefit depends on retention after dividends, other equity movements and the capital required by asset growth. A profitable quarter can coincide with declining capital ratios if risk exposures expand faster. Similarly, accounting profit does not establish unrestricted cash, eligible collateral or the ability to roll short-term liabilities during market stress. Those distinctions matter for a market-funded securities firm.
The short disclosure does not break out brokerage fees, investment-banking fees, trading gains, interest income, provisions or exceptional items. It therefore cannot establish whether the fall reflects weaker client activity, investment marks, credit costs or another cause. The existing franchise provides several income channels, but their mere existence does not demonstrate that current earnings are recurring or independently diversified under stress. A market reversal can affect client flows, asset values and funding conditions together.
The 47% sequential operating-revenue fall should also be interpreted carefully. Financial-company gross revenue can move with investment and trading activity and associated costs; a conventional operating-company sales-margin comparison would require more detail. This release does not justify describing that change as an equivalent collapse in underlying franchise income, nor does the 149% annual revenue increase prove a proportional improvement in credit quality. Operating and net profit are more informative here, while their composition remains a next-source question.
4. Entity Scope, Capital and Funding
Separate-company Q3 operating profit was KRW 484.339bn and net profit was KRW 340.784bn. These demonstrate profitability at the direct issuer as well as the consolidated group. However, the gap from consolidated earnings is not by itself a measure of cash remittable to issuer creditors. Consolidation adjustments, non-controlling interests and subsidiary cash-access restrictions require detailed statements and legal context; the preliminary filing does not provide that bridge.
The result also leaves the latest net capital ratio, adjusted operating net capital ratio, leverage, liquidity ratio and balance-sheet composition unconfirmed in this flash. Earlier capital metrics retained in the issuer summary and existing coverage are dated context, not September observations. A refreshed assessment should connect reported earnings with equity, risk amounts, provisions, liquid assets, collateral and funding liabilities instead of inferring stronger capital from profit alone.
NongHyup group affiliation remains relevant context from the existing reports, but this earnings filing does not confirm a new support commitment. In particular, it does not establish completion of the KRW 400bn rights issue discussed in the prior flash. The absence of that confirmation in a short results announcement is not evidence that payment failed. A post-payment official filing is needed before treating the proceeds as received. Parent support expectations likewise do not establish a guarantee of individual bonds.
5. What To Watch Next
The next detailed official quarterly statements should reconcile these preliminary earnings and provide the September balance sheet, regulatory capital, liquidity and risk exposures. Check whether retained profit and any completed capital action keep pace with FVTPL and less-liquid corporate-finance assets, real-estate PF, guarantees and other contingent commitments. A higher profit buffer would be less reassuring if accompanied by faster risk growth or reduced collateral headroom.
For funding, obtain the maturity ladder, short-term borrowing and note balances, committed lines, foreign-currency liquidity and derivative-margin requirements. For IMA, verify balances, asset allocation, product maturities and liquidity reserves rather than equating fundraising growth with resilience. These remain confirmation tasks, not adverse developments established by the Q3 release. Original current rating-agency assessments, issue terms and live spreads were not reverified. The issuer-level view remains constructive, with market-sensitive earnings and refinancing risk central to the monitoring case.
